Anyone who enjoys spending many hours on model building will quickly realize the significant value that high-quality tools can have. For beginners and minor repairs, inexpensive or older tools may suffice, but those who truly love their hobby will sooner or later come to know and appreciate the right tools.
In the following, we would like to explain some important aspects of the selection process.
"Buy cheap, buy twice"
Everyone has likely encountered this cliché, but nowhere is this statement as accurate as it is with tools. The price range from discount products and Chinese imports to branded goods is often enormous here. Some people tend to prefer the inevitable bargain, but they often regret the purchase after only a short time. Frequently, inferior materials are used in these “cheap tools,” or the quality of the workmanship is simply inadequate. As a result, these tools wear out significantly faster or can even lead to damage to your valuable RC models. Poor screwdrivers, for example, are often not manufactured precisely and can thus strip the screw. This happens all too often with Allen screws in particular when cheap tools are used. These can then often only be drilled out once the screw is stuck and the hex socket is damaged.
Unfortunately, this can also quickly happen with a Torx, slotted, Phillips, etc., drive through the use of poor tools.
The same applies to other tools. In model building, precise needle-nose pliers are particularly important in order to reach poorly accessible places in the models. Inexpensive pliers are often not optimally adjusted. This manifests itself through some play in the joint, or a connection that is put together too tightly. Often, the two gripping surfaces of the pliers are not exactly aligned with each other, so they never offer a truly firm grip.
The aspects described are merely intended to serve as a small example. We are certain that everyone has probably already had their own experiences with such cheap tools.
But what really matters?
For the layperson, the difference between poor or good workmanship and low-quality or high-quality material selection is difficult to comprehend.
Our recommendation is therefore to trust in well-known branded tools. At shops like Tooler.de, you will only find tested branded goods at what we consider a reasonable price. Here, you run less risk of falling for inferior products that produce more trouble in the long run than they bring joy. Brand manufacturers generally cannot afford bad reviews and therefore ensure consistent, high product quality.
In this way, as a consumer, you take the safest route. You may pay a little more initially, but in the long run, you save yourself a lot of trouble, frustration, and subsequent costs.
This is not an advertisement for a specific brand, but we have been using tools from FACOM for a very long time. I would not want to be without this quality anymore.
