T-Bucket Perfection at 1:5 scale

Hot rod classicScale redefined

The time has finally come: after an intensive development phase, we’re giving the green light to our latest project – a true-to-original replica of a Ford T23 Bucket at 1:5 scale.

In close collaboration with California Custom Roadsters in Los Angeles, we created a model based on the original drawings of the legendary hot rod and implemented authentically down to the smallest detail.

We also consistently rely on real automotive engineering when it comes to materials and manufacturing methods: the frame is made from steel profile tubes, axle carriers and wheel suspensions are welded, and the body is produced using classic GRP construction. The result is an exceptional model with authentic character, maximum attention to detail, and the unmistakably purist look of a real T-bucket.

In the following report, we will present the manufacture and construction of our T-Bucket in detail. This gives you the opportunity to participate in every step of the creation of our model and gives you exciting insights into the technical details of the vehicle. Our report will be published in several sections documenting the progress of construction. So if you are interested, just follow our posts regularly and stay up to date.

The Frame

The construction of our T-Bucket starts with the frame, as with any car. This consists of carefully prepared square tubes, which are cut and welded to the appropriate scale according to the original plans. When it came to the question of how to weld something this small in high quality and true to the original, we turned to the company Lampert Werktechnik and decided to purchase a PUK U5 welding machine. I have to say, this device is just great fun!

The Engine

The ScaleMonkey T-bucket was developed specifically for the Cison V8 OHV engine. We chose this engine because it is currently one of the most realistic and powerful engines in this scale on the market. The compact 8-cylinder 4-stroke engine is inspired by the 440 Chevrolet V8 and has a displacement of 44 cc with approx. 4.8 hp. This is more than sufficient for our project to create a realistic hot rod.

Of course, we designed matching accessories for the T-bucket’s engine and produced them with precise craftsmanship. This includes a custom-designed air cleaner in the distinctive gasser style. This air filter features a high-performance filter element that barely restricts airflow, ensuring optimal engine performance. For cooling, a brass water radiator was developed, featuring 26 tubes with a total length of 1.8 m. With this cooler and the radiator mounted on the engine, operation of around 10 minutes at average RPM is possible.
A real eye-catcher is the side-pipe exhaust system designed by ScaleMonkey. The eight header pipes are all nearly the same length and lead into an elegant side pipe. This achieves the same back pressure and resonance for each cylinder, producing a powerful V8 sound for a model engine.

To be continued...

Precision is no coincidence, it is our goal.
